Hail damage roof replacement & solar restoration — Helotes

A homeowner in Helotes called us after a hailstorm left visible bruising across the roof field. During our inspection we found hail damage on the asphalt shingles, but also two problems that predated the storm: excessive granule loss driven by an inefficient attic ventilation system, and gutters clogged badly enough to push water back toward the fascia instead of away from the house. A closer look at the ridge also turned up fiberglass mat exposed from an incorrectly installed ridge cap — an install defect that had nothing to do with the storm.

The solar array told its own story. All 39 panels on the roof were installed, and not a single one was producing power. Two of the roof-mounted solar attic fans had been damaged by the same storm.

We documented every slope with dated photos and measurements so the homeowner had what she needed to submit to USAA. Once the claim was approved, we tore off down to the decking, corrected the ventilation, and installed a full GAF Timberline UHDZ Class 4 impact-resistant system in Weathered Wood.

Bringing the solar back online meant coordinating the detach-and-reset with the panel manufacturer to keep the system's warranty intact, then calibrating and testing all 39 panels until every one was producing again. We replaced the storm-damaged solar attic fans with new high-efficiency units and re-hung the aluminum seamless gutters with a leaf screen, so the drainage problem that contributed to this doesn't just come back in a few years.

The finished roof carries a GAF Silver Pledge Lifetime transferable warranty — covered for as long as the homeowner keeps it, and it stays covered if she sells.
