Roof Insurance Claims in San Antonio: storm damage documentation done right.
We inspect your roof, photograph every slope, and measure the damage. You get a written report you can send to your insurer yourself.
What storm damage documentation looks like in Texas
After a hail or wind storm, the first question is simple. What happened to the roof, and where. We climb it, photograph each slope, count impacts, and measure the areas involved. Every photo is dated. Every note says which slope it came from.
We are roofers, not insurance people. Texas law keeps roofing contractors out of the insurance side of a job they are contracting to repair. So we stay in our lane. We tell you what we found on your roof and we write it down clearly. What you do with that report, and how your coverage reads, is between you and your insurer.
What each step actually looks like.
We have documented storm damage on hundreds of San Antonio roofs. Here is the sequence, and exactly where our part starts and stops.
1. Free damage inspection
We walk the roof and tell you plainly what we see. If we do not find storm damage, we say so.
2. Photos and measurements
Dated photos of each slope, impact counts, wind lift patterns, and measured areas of the roof.
3. Written damage report
You get a written assessment in plain language. It describes the condition of the roof and nothing more.
4. You decide what to do
The report is yours. You can send it to your insurer, keep it for your records, or use it to compare bids.
5. Repair or replacement
If you hire us for the work, we build to spec, photograph the finished roof, and give you a final invoice.
How it goes, start to finish.
- 01
Storm inspection (free)
Dated photos per slope, hail impact counts, and wind lift patterns, all recorded on site.
- 02
Measurements
We measure the roof and the damaged areas so the numbers in the report are real, not estimated from the ground.
- 03
Written damage report
A clear, written assessment of what we found, with the photos attached.
- 04
We walk you through it
We sit down with you and explain what each photo shows, in plain language.
- 05
Work and final invoice
If you hire us, we complete the roof to spec and document the finished job the same way.
What documentation costs
The inspection, the photos, the measurements, and the written report cost you nothing. We do not charge for documentation. The only thing you pay for is roofing work, and only if you decide to hire us.
Texas keeps roofing contractors on the roofing side of a storm loss. A roofer should not be working the insurance side of a job it is contracting to repair, and should not be telling you what your coverage means. Any roofer who offers to do that is putting you at risk. We document the roof. That is the job.
What affects the number
- Size and pitch of the roof, which drive both the inspection time and the repair cost
- Roofing material, since shingle, metal, and tile each need different documentation
- How many structures are on the property, such as a detached garage or a barn
- Upgrades you choose, like a heavier shingle, added gutters, or better ventilation
Should I file an insurance claim for roof damage?
File when the documented damage clearly exceeds your deductible, and skip it when it does not. A small isolated repair on a roof that is otherwise sound is often cheaper to pay for directly than to run through a claim.
Get the roof documented first so you are deciding with facts. We inspect, photograph every slope, count impacts where there is hail, and give you measurements and a written report. That report is yours, free, whether you file or not.
We cannot tell you what your policy covers and no roofer should. Coverage questions belong to your insurer and your agent, and Texas keeps roofing contractors on the roofing side of a storm loss for good reason.
What we can tell you is what is on your roof, how bad it is, and what it would cost to fix. Compare that number to your deductible, talk to your agent, and decide from there.
Will filing a roof claim raise my premium?
Possibly, and no one can promise you otherwise. Texas carriers commonly treat wind and hail as a weather or catastrophe loss rather than an at fault claim, which is different from a liability claim, but carriers vary and claim history can still affect your renewal terms.
What we see change more often than the rate itself is the terms. Higher wind and hail deductibles, depreciated roof payment schedules on older roofs, and tighter underwriting at renewal are all common in this market.
Rate practices are also broader than your house. Widespread storm losses across a region influence what everyone pays, whether or not you personally filed.
Ask your own agent before you file, in plain terms: how does this claim type affect my renewal and my deductible. That is the only answer that applies to your policy, and it is a question we are not licensed to answer for you.
Questions we hear often.
Do you handle insurance claims for homeowners?
No. Texas restricts roofing contractors from working the insurance side of a roof they are contracting to repair, and from advising on coverage. What we do is inspect the roof and document the damage with photos and measurements. The written report is yours to use however you want.
What is in the damage report?
Dated photos of every slope, impact counts where there is hail damage, notes on lifted or creased shingles, condition of flashing and vents, and measurements of the roof and the affected areas. It is written in plain language, not roofing jargon.
Can you tell me if my roof damage is covered?
We cannot, and no roofer should. Coverage questions belong to your insurer and to the documents you signed with them. We can tell you what is on your roof, how bad it is, and what it would take to fix it.
How long does an inspection and report take?
The roof inspection usually takes about an hour on a typical San Antonio home. The written report with photos comes back to you within a day or two, faster after a big storm if you need it sooner.
What does the inspection cost?
Nothing. The inspection, photos, measurements, and written report are free. You are not obligated to hire us for any repair work afterward.
